CA Governor Update
Ignore if you're not in CA
Friends,
I’ve been receiving inquiries about the CA gubernatorial primary. You do not need to rush your vote. The election is June 2nd. If you send in your ballot, or drop it off, on May 26, two weeks from now, you are still a week before the election.
Most polls are showing Hilton leading, so we can assume he’ll be one name on the ballot. He’s followed pretty closely by Becerra. The next two are Steyer and Bianco, followed much further down by Porter and Mahan. However, the most recent polls have come from groups supporting Becerra (Democratic party) and Mahan (Silicon Valley $B’s). They are not entirely objective.
So while Steyer is my preferred candidate, the polling spread between Steyer and Bianco is well within the margin of error which means they could in fact be tied. And there are still 5% - 15% Undecided. Given historical voting patterns, and the fact that there are only two Republicans running, I believe 2%-5% of the Undecided will vote for a Republican. That leaves a lot of Democratic votes still to be determined.
There is a chance that Porter will end her campaign and throw her support behind someone else. I’m very skeptical that Mahan will end his campaign as he is young with lots of money behind him and is most certainly planning to run for office again.
So…. We have two more weeks before we have to decide. I’m hoping that Emerson College and YouGov will do some polling as they are much more credible than the polling from candidates and their PACs.
Patience…
